Accessible Youth Safety Courses

Program Details

For many students with learning disabilities, traditional certification courses such as Red Cross Babysitting, Home Alone, and Youth First Aid can be challenging.  These programs often rely heavily on reading, writing and long periods of sitting, which may not work well for students with diverse learning needs.

At LDAPEI, we believe these important life skills should be accessible to everyone.  That’s why we partner with EmpowerFirst Aid to offer courses taught by a facilitator who understandings the needs of students with learning disabilities.

Classes are designed to be hands-on, engaging, and supportive, with plenty of movement breaks, flexible pacing, reduced reading and writing demands, and additional support during testing.  The goal is to help students build confidence while successfully completing their certification.

Rates & Info

Courses are offered a few times a year in Summerside and Charlottetown. Fees are reduced for students receiving LDAPEI tutoring, and sliding scale options are available for non members to help ensure accessibility.
