Language Statement
LDAPEI values diversity and is committed to clear, respectful, and inclusive communication. We recognize that bias, stigma, and discrimination toward people with disabilities can be reduced through the thoughtful use of language. In support of this commitment, LDAPEI strives to:
- Seek guidance from individuals with disabilities and representative groups on how they prefer to identify;
- Use person-first language—placing the individual before the disability—when it is not possible to ask or when preferences vary; and
- Remain informed about the evolving language and best practices related to disabilities.
