People with LDs - How Can You Help?

Someone with Learning Disabilities has average or above-average intelligence but learns and processes information in a different way from others. They benefit significantly by support via specific, explicit, systematic programs on an individual basis.

All education systems want to support students as much as possible, but every school cannot provide every resource needed for every student.

Islanders have a wonderful history of supporting Islanders. We thank you for any financial support you are able to give.

"Hi, Robyn asked me for a sample of my handwriting because I have dysgraphia. Dysgraphia is a term for learning disabilities that affects spelling and handwriting. I should probably point out that despite how my handwriting looks, I'm 26 and have a business degree from UPEI with a minor in economics."

Supporting Students

Fortunately, some families are able to support their children to receive tutoring with LDAPEI. However, there are many students across the island struggling with their learning disabilities, needing support but without the financial means to do so.

LDAPEI constantly tries to access funds to allow students who cannot afford services, to benefit from them, regardless of socioeconomic status. We want all LD students to benefit from the opportunities we provide.

We are a non-profit, registered charity. Any funds that are collected go towards providing services to those living with or supporting those living with LDs. Donors can specify donations are purely for tutoring if they so wish.

Please consider assisting us in our efforts to help more students.

Through your donation, people with LDs receive life-changing services who would otherwise be unable to get them.

Did you know you can make donations through your payroll?

LDAPEI would like to thank employees who give through the Donor Option Program via The United Way PEI!

"Every year, the United Way of PEI supports dozens of priority programs in partnership with social and health service agencies on Prince Edward Island which impact the lives and well-being of thousands of Island Residents. It's through the generosity of employees and individuals that we also are able to help organizations like yours."

Please contact your payroll department who will be happy to help set this up. For more information on the United Way of Prince Edward Island please visit their website at www.peiunitedway.com

LDAPEI has an ongoing fundraiser through the Department of Highways and Transportations whereby a percentage of sales of the Passing Zone Prep Kits is donated to LDAPEI.

Passing Zone Prep Kits are driver education kits with exam preparation materials based on the principles of Universal Design for Learning. The Prep Kits are a series of study cards that summarize the Driver’s Handbook and Discover Canada Guide into smaller more manageable units of information. The Instruction Permit Prep Kit is the best way to make sure that you are ready to take the test, getting you on your way to becoming a safe driver.

Instruction Permit Prep Kits are available at all Access PEI locations in both English and French.
