LDAPEI MATH CAMPS
LDAPEI Math Camps will enhance the understanding of students who have greater difficulty than most in grasping mathematical concepts.
Math Camps will be activity-oriented, interesting, and fun with students learning through the practical application of mathematical concepts to concrete situations.
Tutoring will be provided by a B.Ed. qualified tutor with a major in mathematics.
The Math Camps will be held on Saturday mornings from 8:30-12:30 at the LDAPEI Office, in 10 week blocks.
Timetable and Structure
9.00-10:00 a.m. - Level A (Grades 1 & 2) – Students attending level A will have a skill level at approximately Grades 1 & 2. Math concepts that will be tackled are basic, such as counting and skip counting, grouping, set theory, addition, subtraction, geometry, direction sense (right, left, up, down), money, time, number lines, and simple word problems.
10:00-11:00 a.m. - Level B (Grades 3 & 4) – Students attending level B will have a skill level at approximately Grades 3 & 4. Math concepts that will be tackled are slightly more advanced levels of counting and skip counting, set theory, addition, subtraction, geometry, money, and word problems. Place value, multiplication, division, fractions are new topics.
11:00-12:00 a.m. - Level C (Grades 5 & 6) – Students attending level C will have a skill level at approximately Grades 5 & 6. Math concepts will include more advanced fraction skills, multiplication, and division. Visual math (graphs, diagrams, charts, etc.) will be introduced.
12:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. - Level D (Grades 7 & 8) – Students attending level D will have a skill level at approximately Grades 7 & 8. New math concepts will include mixed numerals, improper fractions, decimals, percentages, and variables.
There will be a maximum of 6 students in each group, and a minimum of 2.
Students are not required to attend every week; however, regular attendance will give students greater opportunity to understand math concepts, and to be comfortable asking questions about what they do not understand.
Once a student has mastered the Level they are tutoring in they may transfer to the next level. This may be at the start of the next block of sessions but will be determined with the tutor and parents.
Students can attend two successive sessions (e.g., A and B, B and C, or C and D) but are discouraged from attending non-contiguous levels.
$100 per block of 10 sessions paid at first session.
